Zdzisław Goral

Zdzisław Goral (born August 15, 1950 in Dębice , Maszewo municipality) is a retired Polish military with the rank of lieutenant general .

Life

From 1969 to 1973 he attended the Wyższa Szkoła Oficerska Wojsk Pancernych (Higher Officers School of the Armored Force) in Poznań . He then served in the 36th Pułk Zmechanizowany ( Mechanized Infantry Regiment ) in Trzebiatów , where he rose to become the leader of a tank company. From 1980 to 1983 he attended the Malinovsky Military Academy of Armored Forces in Moscow . In 1983 he was first active in the staff of the 20th Panzer Division in Szczecinek and then became Deputy Chief of Staff of the 28th Pułk Czołgów (Panzer Regiment), which was subordinate to it. From 1986 to 1989 he commanded the 24th Pułk Czołgów in Stargard and the 68th Pułk Czołgów in Budowo .

In 1990 he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Mechanized Division in Szczecinek. After that he was first deputy head of the Polish contingent in Croatia within the framework of the UN peace mission UNPROFOR in the former Yugoslavia and from 1994 its head. In 1995 he resumed his service with the 2nd Mechanized Division, this time as assistant trainer. From 1997 to 1998 he attended the Geneva Center for Security Policy . From 1998 to 2000 he commanded the 11th Armored Cavalry Division in Żagań .

From 2000 to 2001 he was deputy commander of the Multinational Corps North-East in Szczecin . In 2001 he became Head of Division G3 and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Polish Land Forces . In the same year he moved to the European NATO headquarters SHAPE in Mons , initially as a department head and, after a visit to the NATO School Oberammergau, as a division manager for education and training from 2002 to 2004. In 2004 he became deputy head of the multinational NATO Response Force - Troops 3rd Turkish Corps in Istanbul . From 2006 until his retirement at the end of 2009, he succeeded Egon Ramms as the commander of the Multinational Corps North-East. In this role he was involved in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan at the beginning of 2007 , where he was replaced by Mieczysław Bieniek for health reasons .
