The summers, on the other hand, are hot by Siberian standards with subtropical influences. Overall, the city's climate is continental with dry winters and humid, hot summers ( Dwa ).

history

Blagoveshchensk is one of the oldest cities in the Russian Far East. The city grew rapidly, especially after gold was discovered in northern Amur Oblast . In 1856 the Russian military post Ust-Seiski (Усть-Зейский) was established on the site of the present city. On July 5th (17th) 1858, Tsar Alexander II gave the ukase for the foundation of the city. The settlement was renamed "Blagoveschensk" ("City of Annunciation") in honor of Mary, mother of Jesus , and the local parish church of the Annunciation . It received city status and was designated the administrative center of the Amur region .

By the end of the 19th century, Blagoveschensk developed into an important inland port (56 steamships were registered in 1859) and an industrial area (iron foundry, woodworking industry).

The area of the later Amur area was surveyed in the 1840s . In 1858 the Amur area was founded, which belonged to the General Government of Amur (Priamurski). The Amur Cossack army was assigned to the entire district . In 1900 a conflict broke out with China , as a result of which all Chinese had to leave Blagoveshchensk. From 1920 to 1922 the Amur area belonged to the Far Eastern Republic . In the RSFSR , Blagoveshchensk had been the center of Amur Oblast since 1932. After the Second World War there was an important forced labor camp under the Soviet gulag system.
