Skovorodino railway station

Skoworodino ( Russian Сковородино ) is a small town with 9564 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Russian Oblast in Siberia .

location

Skoworodino is on the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway at kilometer 7306, and on the Bolshoi Newer (Большой Невер), the Great Newer , a tributary of the Amur . The latter, which also forms the border with China in this area , runs about 60 km south of the city.

The distance to the regional capital Blagoveshchensk is 669 km in a southeast direction; Tynda , the closest town, is about 140 km north of Skovorodino.

history

The place was founded in 1908 as Smeiny (Змеиный), but changed the name frequently in the following years; from 1909 Newer (Невер) and from 1911 Ruchlowo (Рухлово). In 1927 the town was granted town charter, and in 1938 it was renamed to today's place name.

On January 1, 2011, the East Siberia-Pacific Pipeline , which runs from Taischet north of Lake Baikal to Skovorodino, was officially put into operation. Some of the oil will be transported by rail to an oil terminal in Nakhodka on the Pacific , while the rest will be transported through the aforementioned pipeline to Daqing , China . The annual capacity will initially be 15 million tons of oil per year, but an expansion to 30 million tons is possible.

The pipeline replaces the transport of the oil by rail to China, which was more expensive and limited to 9 million tons per year. The pipeline is thus another big step in Russian efforts to reduce dependence on Europe in the raw materials sector. China granted Russia a $ 25 billion loan on favorable terms in return for the construction of the pipeline. From 2015, natural gas will also be delivered to China through the pipeline.
