Fevralsk ( Russian Февральск ) is an urban-type settlement in Amur Oblast in the Far East of Russia . It has 5128 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the Seja-Bureja plain , southwest of the Selemdscha Mountains , between the Selemdscha and its left tributary Byssa . Fewralsk is located about 340 kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of the Oblast capital Blagoveshchensk .

The settlement belongs to the Zelemjinsky Rajon , whose - significantly smaller - administrative center Ekimchan is a good 150 kilometers away in a north-easterly direction on the upper reaches of the Selemjinsky.

history

In February 1896 resettlers from the European part of Russia founded the village Fevralskoje (Russian fewral for February ).

From 1974 the village became one of the most important bases in the construction of the eastern section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM). The railway station and the new settlement were built by construction workers from the Krasnoyarsk region (as part of the propaganda for the All- Union Komsomol building project BAM, one or more regions of the former Soviet Union sponsored most of the stations and settlements to be built along the route).

In 1982 Fevralsk received the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name. Regular rail traffic on the entire eastern section of the BAM from Tynda to Komsomolsk on the Amur began in 1989. The old village of Fewralskoje has been part of the village ever since. After the completion of the railway line, many residents left the place, but today the population is growing again slightly, contrary to the tendency of most other places on the line.

Economy and Infrastructure

Fewralsk is the most important station on the Baikal-Amur mainline (route km 3017 from Taischet ) and the largest place on the almost 1000-kilometer section from Tynda to Novy Urgal . Not far from Fevralsk, the route crosses the Selemja and Byssa rivers on 700 or 200-meter long bridges.

The road, which was built in the 1940s, runs through Fewralsk from the (today's) M58 Amur near Swobodny along the Seja to Novokijewski Uwal and then along the Selemja to Ekimtschan. In Fevralsk it is crossed by the unpaved road along the BAM on this section.

In the area around Fevralsk there is increased forestry today , especially for wood export to the relatively close People's Republic of China .
