Clorinda is the capital of the Pilcomayo Department in the Formosa Province in northern Argentina . It is on the border with Paraguay , 115 kilometers north-northeast of the provincial capital Formosa , and has 52,837 inhabitants.
location
Clorinda is on the west bank of the Río Pilcomayo , which at this point forms the border with Paraguay, and ten kilometers before it joins the Río Paraguay . Opposite Clorinda is the Paraguayan capital Asunción . Both cities are connected by the Puente Internacional San Ignacio de Loyola , which was named after the founder of the Jesuit order.
Clorinda is also a crossing point of the Ruta Nacional 11 and Ruta Nacional 86 .
The area around the city belongs to the humid part of the Gran Chaco , a savannah and forest landscape with a subtropical climate.
history
The city was founded in 1900 by Manfredi Hertelendy . This was preceded by the construction of several forts in the border region in order to secure the borderline after the war of the Triple Alianza . After it was founded, the city quickly grew to become the second largest city in the Formosa province.
economy
The city is shaped by the service and trade sector. Through traffic and trade with nearby Paraguay play a special role .
