Faroese Football Cup 1980

The 1980 Faroese Football Cup took place between April 23 and September 7, 1980 and was played for the 26th time. In the final, which was played on artificial turf in the Gundadalur Stadium in Tórshavn , defending champion HB Tórshavn won 2-0 against NSÍ Runavík and was thus able to win the cup for the third time in a row and for the 16th time overall.

HB Tórshavn took second place in the championship . With NSÍ Runavík, a second division team played in the final for the first time. So far this has only been repeated by Royn Hvalba in 1983 and ÍF Fuglafjørður in 1987 .

For the first time all teams of the first four leagues were admitted to the cup, including the B, C and D representatives. In comparison to the previous year, fourth division teams took part for the first time. First of all, these 19 fourth division teams determined the eight participants for the second round in two rounds, in which the eight third division teams were then added. One round later, the eight second division teams intervened in the competition, and in the fourth round the field was completed by the eight first division teams. All rounds were played in the knockout system .
