Faroese Football Cup 1979

The Faroese Football Cup 1979 took place between May 13th and August 26th 1979 and was played for the 25th time. In the final, which was played on artificial turf in the Gundadalur Stadium in Tórshavn , defending champion HB Tórshavn won 5-0 against KÍ Klaksvík and was able to win the cup for the 15th time.

HB Tórshavn and KÍ Klaksvík finished third and sixth in the championship . With SÍ Sørvágur a second division reached the semi-finals.

For the first time, all teams in the first three leagues were admitted to the cup, including the B and C representations. This was the first time that second and third division teams took part. First of all, the 22 third division teams determined the eight participants for the second round in two rounds, in which the eight second division teams were added. In the third round, the field of participants was completed by the eight top division teams. As of this year, the final was decided in only one game. All rounds were played in the knockout system .
