Gergely Rudolf (born March 9, 1985 in Nyíregyháza ) is a Hungarian football player . The striker is a Hungarian international. He spent most of his youth in France at AS Nancy . He is a French citizen.

Club career

Rudolf began his career in the youth of his home club Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC . At the age of 14 he moved to AS Nancy in France . Fetched as a defender, you quickly noticed his offensive talent, whereupon he was converted into a striker. He then scored 28 goals in his second youth season. As a result, he became an offensive rough diamond in Nancy, which was predicted to have a great career. After breaking all the club's goal scoring records in the youth teams, he was called up for the first time in the Nancy B team in 2002. This was followed by sporadic missions over a length of two seasons, in which he switched between youth and B-team. In the 2004/05 season he was able to get a regular place in the B-team and scored 14 goals in 30 games of the season. After this strong season, he was accepted into the professional squad of Nancy in the 2005/06 season. However, Rudolf could not prevail against Eli Kroupi and the Brazilian Kim and only came to five appearances in Ligue 1 , in which he was denied a goal. For almost the entire 2006/07 season, Nancy played against relegation and the coach relied on experienced players. For Rudolf, this had the consequence of being transferred back to the B team. There were two more strong years in the B team, without Nancy called him back to the professional team. He was able to record a small highlight with winning the French Coupe de la Ligue in 2006. When his contract ran out for the 2007/08 season, he did not extend it despite an offer from Nancy and moved back home to the traditional club VSC Debrecen .

Due to his past as a youth player for Nyíregyháza Spartacus , who has always been considered the arch enemy of Debrecen, he was initially viewed extremely critically by the fans. Accordingly, his first season in Hungary was frustrating, in which he only scored three goals in 13 appearances.

Almost back on the sidelines and stamped as an eternal talent, he experienced a performance explosion in the 2008/09 season. He played outstandingly at times and led the club as vice-top scorer with 16 goals this season to the fourth championship and the Supercup victory. Furthermore, he was honored at the end of the season with the József Bozsik Prize as "Player of the Year in the Hungarian Premier League". Due to his efficiency and spectacular style of play, he became the absolute favorite of the fans and has enjoyed a kind of hero status at least since his goal in the 2-0 in the Champions League qualification against Levski Sofia , which fixed the entry into the Champions League .

In 2010 Rudolf moved to the Italian Serie A for CFC Genoa on a free transfer , where he made his debut on September 12, 2010 in the game against Chievo Verona , when he came on for Mattia Destro in the 79th minute . However, he came in Genoa in the first half of the competition only 14 more times, where he was mostly used as a joker. In this role he got a hit. In order to guarantee him more match practice, Genoa loaned him to league rivals AS Bari in January 2011, where he already scored on his debut against Juventus Turin and played a total of 13 games for the club, in which he scored two goals.

In August 2011 Rudolf moved on loan to Panathinaikos Athens , where he made his debut under coach Jesualdo Ferreria on the third day of the Greek first division when he was substituted on in the 57th minute. Rudolf scored his first goal for Panathinaikos on April 1, 2012.

National team

The early French legionnaire was simply overlooked by the Hungarian federation for a long time before he made his debut for the Hungarian U-17 national team in 2001 . A total of nine international youth games followed before he disappeared again into oblivion.

It was only as a Debrecen player that he made his first A-Team appearance for Hungary in August 2008 in a friendly against Montenegro . Since his strong performances for Debrecen in the 2008/09 season, he has been a permanent fixture in the national team. In the current qualification for the 2010 World Cup , he has so far made four appearances with one goal in the 1: 2 against Sweden .
