Steven Gordon Whittaker (born June 16, 1984 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football player . He started his professional career in his hometown at Hibernian Edinburgh . From there he went to the Glasgow Rangers , with whom he was three times Scottish champion.
Career
In the club
Hibernian Edinburgh (2001-2007)
Whittaker moved from Hutchison Vale to the youth department of Hibernian Edinburgh. He made his debut for the club from his hometown on May 12, 2002 in a 1-0 win against FC St. Johnstone . In the 2002/03 season he came to further missions and made the jump into the starting line-up the following season. During the season he finally managed his first goal in the league against Partick Thistle and he reached the league cup final with Edinburgh . In the defeat against Livingston FC , however, he was not used. As a result, he was with Hibernian in the 2004/05 season third in the SPL . He celebrated his only success in his last season for Edinburgh, when he won the league cup with the team against FC Kilmarnock .
Glasgow Rangers (2007-2012)
He left Easter Road in 2007 and joined the Glasgow Rangers for £ 2,000,000 . In the Ibrox , he scored directly on his debut against FC Falkirk . Later in the season he was able to reach the final of the UEFA Cup with the Rangers, in which he was in the starting line-up and was replaced in the 86th minute by Kris Boyd . However, the final was lost 2-0 to Zenit Saint Petersburg . Nevertheless, ten days later he was able to win the Scottish FA Cup with the Rangers against Queen of the South . He then dominated the league with the Rangers and won the double in 2009 , as well as the championship two more times.
Norwich City (2012-2017)
As a result of the Glasgow Rangers bankruptcy, Whittaker moved to Norwich City in the summer of 2012 .
Return to Hibernian Edinburgh (2017-2020)
In July 2017 Whittaker moved back to Hibernian Edinburgh , where he started his career.
Dunfermline Athletic (since 2020)
After leaving Hibernian, he signed a contract with Scottish second division club Dunfermline Athletic until 2021 .
In the national team
He made his debut in the Scottish U-21 national team under coach Rainer Bonhof in a friendly against Spain . He then made 14 more appearances and scored his only goal against Belarus before he was in the senior squad for the first time in a 2006 European Championship qualifier against Ukraine . It was only three years later - after he had also played a game for the B national team - that he made his debut against Norway . This was followed by 13 more missions, the last time he was used against Cyprus in 2011 .
