The Great Western Highway is a trunk road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects Harris Street / Regent Street in Ultimo in downtown Sydney with the Mid-Western Highway , Mitchell Highway , Bathurst-Ilford Road and O'Connell Road in Bathurst .

The street begins as Broadway on Harris Street / Regent Street west of Central Station in Sydney's Ultimo neighborhood , heads west and becomes Parramatta Road . In the Summer Hill district , it takes up the Hume Highway (Liverpool Road, S31) coming from the west . And turns to the northwest. In the Five Dock district , she picks up the City West Link (Met-4) coming from the east and turns west again. From the Homebush district , the Western Motorway (Met-4) runs north of the Great Western Highway parallel to the west-northwest to Parramatta . There both streets turn west again.

In Eastern Creek, both streets cross the WestLink (M7) and just before Penrith The Northern Road (Met-9). The Great Western Highway runs through the city and immediately afterwards crosses the Nepean River . The Western Motorway (Met-4) joins its west bank in Emu Plains .

The road continues through the Blue Mountains . Past Katoomba and Lithgow , the highway crosses the Great Dividing Range and ends in Bathurst. From there, the Mitchell Highway (R32) heads northwest, the Mid-Western Highway (R24) heads west, Bathurst-Ilford Road heads north and O'Connell Road heads southeast.
