The Mid-Western Highway is a trunk road in the center of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects the Great Western Highway in Bathurst with the Cobb Highway in Hay .

course

The Mid-Western Highway branches off in Bathurst from the Great Western Highway (R32) to the west-southwest. In Cowra , where the Olympic Highway (R41) and the Lachlan Valley Way (S81) converge, he crosses the Lachlan River and turns west. In Grenfell it crosses Henry Lawson Way and continues with it to the west for 9 km. It crosses the Weddin Mountains and reaches the Newell Highway (N39) at Marsden .

Together with this it leads in a south-westerly direction to West Wyalong , where it branches off again to the west. From West Wyalong, the Mid-Western Highway describes a flat, wide arc to the southwest through vast grasslands and meets the north bank of the Murrumbidgee River 250 km further . A few kilometers further on, it meets the Cobb Highway (R75) in Hay and ends.

meaning

The Mid-Western Highway is part of the shortest road link between Sydney and Adelaide . Since the expansion of the Hume Highway (N31), the preferred route between the two capitals has been via it and the Sturt Highway (N20). Although this route via Wagga Wagga is 20 km longer, it is faster to drive due to the improved state of development.
