The Lachlan Valley Way is a main road in the south of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects the Hume Highway north of Yass along the Lachlan River with the Cobb Highway in Booligal .

The Lachlan Valley Way branches north of Yass from the Hume Highway (N31) to the north. Approx. 40 km west of the Lachlan River it runs through Boorowa to the north and reaches the river at Cowra . This is where the Olympic Highway (R41) coming from the southwest ends and the Mid-Western Highway (R24) crosses.

Together with the Mid-Western Highway, the Lachlan Valley Way leads about 5 km to the west and then branches off again to the north. Always along the south bank of the river, it leads through Gooloogong to Forbes , where it crosses the Newell Highway (N39). It touches Condobolin in the south and then leaves the river bank a short distance to lead through Lake Cargelligo . South of Wallanthery the road meets the Kidman Way (S87) and with it overcomes the last 35 km to Hillston .

In Hillston the two streets separate again; the Kidman Way heads south while the Lachlan Valley Way again follows the south bank of the river for the last 77 km southwest to Booligal . There it meets the Cobb Highway (R75) and ends.

Road conditions

The Lachlan Valley Way has two lanes and is mostly paved. Most of the stretch between Condobolin and Lake Cargellino is unpaved, as is the final 34 km of the stretch between Lake Cargellino and Wallanthery. The third unpaved section is the last 50 km to Booligal.

Street numbering

From the Hume Highway to Cowra, the Lachlan Valley Way is number 81 State Road. From Cowra to the end of the road in Booligal, it is not numbered.
