Korean transcription from Chinese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Korean transcription of Chinese, i.e. the representation of Chinese syllables in South Korea , was officially established on January 7, 1986 by the National Institute of the Korean Language ( Kor. 국립 국어원 , 國立國語 ). The transliteration is based on the pronunciation of standard Chinese . From an announcement by the Chinese Embassy in North Korea on August 6, 2011, it emerged that North Korea had also accepted this romanization three days earlier with at least one deviation.

Sinocorean reading

Due to the large proportion of Chinese loanwords in Korean and the fact that Korea only used Hanja before the introduction of the Korean alphabet in the 15th century , there is a traditional variant in addition to the one decided by the South Korean National Institute in which the Korean pronunciation of Chinese characters in Hangeul is played. Since this pronunciation is derived from Middle Chinese , which is phonetically very different from standard Chinese, and is tied to the script, a direct reference to Pinyin is not possible in contrast to the official transcription.
