The Amorettes are a Scottish classic / hard rock band from Edinburgh . The band is under contract with the record label Off Yer Rocka and has released four studio albums to date.

history

The band was formed in 2010 by drummer Hannah McKay and guitarist Gill Montgomery. Both musicians were studying music at Stevenson College in Edinburgh at the time and were fans of AC / DC and classic rock. After the band had some unknown bass players in their ranks, Hannah's younger sister Heather McKay later joined the band. Gill Montgomery and her boyfriend found the band name in a baby name book. Already in December 2010 the band recorded their debut album Haulin 'Ass with producer Allan Forsyth , which was released a year later. The Amorettes were named Band of the Year at the Scottish New Music Awards.

In the following years the band played countless concerts in the United Kingdom , opening up for bands and artists such as Sebastian Bach , the Black Star Riders , Gun , WASP and the LA Guns . In 2014 the Amorettes were signed by the record label Off Yer Rocka and played at Bloodstock Open Air . The band recorded their second studio album, Game On, with producer Chris Tsangarides , who has already worked with Judas Priest and Depeche Mode . The album was released in March 2015. The Amorettes toured simultaneously in support of Europe and the Black Star Riders. A year later, the third studio album, White Hot Heat , followed, produced by Thunder guitarist Luke Morley. In addition, Morley and the Black Star Riders singer Ricky Warwick wrote some songs for the band. On April 6, 2018, the fourth studio album Born to Break was released , which was again produced by Luke Morley.

On February 25, 2019, the band announced the departure of Heather and Hannah McKay. On March 7, 2019 it was announced that the two musicians Jacinta Jaye (bass) and Josie O'Toole (drums) from the band Tequila Mockingbyrd and guitarist Laurie Buchanan from the band Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classic would join the band for the upcoming tour complete. Conversely, the four musicians will also play Tequila Mockingbyrd together. On July 25, 2019, the band played as opening act for Airbourne at the Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne , Switzerland . The band also played, partly as the opening act for The Quireboys , at various festivals in Great Britain, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

style

The Amorettes play classic hard rock influenced by bands like AC / DC , Van Halen and Mötley Crüe . On the part of the press, The Amorettes were referred to as "female Ramones " or " Airbourne with Joan Jett as singer". According to Gill Montgomery, the musicians wanted to close the gap that arose after the breakup of all-female rock bands like The Runaways or Rock Goddess .
