Gun is a Scottish rock band founded in 1987 by the brothers Giuliano (guitar) and Dante Gizzi (first bass, later vocals). The other founding members were Mark Rankin (vocals), Scott Shields (drums) and Baby Stafford (guitar).
Career
In 1989 her first album, Taking on the World, was released . The single Better Days made it into the top 40 of the UK charts . Gun went on tour in America and, alongside Dan Reed Network, was the opening act for the Rolling Stones on their European tour in 1990.
Alex Dickson replaced Baby Stafford before the release of Gallus' second album . Dickson and Shield then left the band, Mark Kerr (the brother of the Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr ) came as a new drummer. In this line-up they recorded the third album Swagger with Chris Sheldon , which was their most successful. The single Word Up (originally by the band Cameo ) reached the UK Top 10 and was also a hit outside of the UK.
After three-year hiatus, the band in 1997 attempted a comeback with the new drummer Stuart Kerr (previously at Texas ), a spelling of the name (GUN) and the album 0141 632 6326 , which by INXS - keyboardist was produced Andrew Fariss. The group's sound was much more poppy now. The success fell far short of expectations.
Then the band broke up. There were brief reunions in 1998 and 1999, and two more CDs of older material were released.
In January 2009 Giuliano and Dante Gizzi played some old compositions on the occasion of a concert in Glasgow. Toby Jepson (previously with Little Angels ) appeared as the new singer . The gig was sponsored by the local radio station "96.3 Rock". In April of the same year Gun announced that a new album would be released soon and a tour would follow. In autumn 2009 Popkiller was released, an EP with 5 newly composed songs. The album was produced in London's Abbey Road Studios by Stephen Harris ( U2 , Santana ). In the spring of 2010, Gordon McNeil (drums) announced that he wanted to leave the band and take care of his own band (Gogobot). As a replacement Paul McManus denied the upcoming tour. Gun played several concerts with the American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd .
In June 2010 singer Toby Jepson announced on the band's website that he would turn to other projects and leave the band. In October 2010 the band members published the message on their website that the previous bassist Dante Gizzi Toby Jepson would succeed as singer. Andy Carr took over the bass.
On June 15, 2012 a new album called Break the Silence (Edel Music) was released. The band's fourth studio album included 11 songs and was produced by Dave Eringa (including Manic Street Preachers and Kylie Minogue ). For the 25th anniversary of the debut album Taking on the World , a special edition was released in October 2014. The album features live recordings, demos and live material.
Gun also played a few concerts in Scotland and Spain in November 2014. In 2015, the band's sixth studio album, Frantic, was released; the single Everyone's a Winner , originally by Hot Chocolate , was a minor success. Several tours through Great Britain and Spain followed. Shortly after the album was released, Andy Carr (bass) and Alex Dickson (guitar) were also introduced as new members. Frantic reached number 50 in the English charts.
Then the musicians are working on a new studio album, which was released in 2017. Gun then went on tour with the American rock formation Black Star Riders .
