Career

societies

In 1998 Wilkie joined the pros from the U-19 division of Dundee FC , a club in his hometown. During his time at Dundee FC he was awarded two short-term contracts in 2001 to the English clubs Plymouth Argyle and Notts County . Wilkie was also under contract with FC Falkirk for a short time. In January 2004 he tore his cruciate ligament in the game against Dundee United , but could not undergo an operation and had to do muscle training to strengthen the cruciate ligament.

In 2006 he moved to Dundee United. Dundee coach Craig Levein initially considered Wilkie unsuitable for the first division and initially loaned him to Ross County . After Barry Robson left Dundee United for Celtic Glasgow in February 2008 , Wilkie was named the new captain.

On April 3, 2010, however, it was announced that Wilkie had to end his career at the age of 29 due to persistent knee problems.

Wilkie made his debut for the Scottish national team under coach Berti Vogts . At the Reunification Cup in Hong Kong in May 2002, Wilkie played against South Africa for the first time for Scotland. In March 2003 Wilkie scored his only international goal in the game against Iceland .
