Craig James Brewster (born December 13, 1966 in Dundee ) is a former Scottish football player and current coach.

Career

Craig Brewster began playing football as a student in the youth team of Dundee United , but was not offered a contract for the professional team. So he played for a while at Dundee Stobswell before hiring in 1985 for the then Scottish second division Forfar Athletic . At Forfar he was used as a midfielder and came to 191 games and 35 goals. In 1991 Brewster was signed by the Raith Rovers . In the Rovers he was converted into a striker and was able to achieve 55 goals together with strike partner Gordon Dalziel in the 1992/93 season . The Rovers became champions in the Scottish Second Division that season . In the summer of 1993 Brewster moved to Dundee United, with whom he was Scottish Cup winner in 1994 . He scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 final win against Glasgow Rangers . Despite this success, Dundee rose in the following season in 1995 from the second division and 1996 again. During the promotion season Brewster scored 4 goals in the league game against FC Dumbarton .

In 1996 he moved to the Greek first division club Ionikos Nikea , where he stayed for five years and scored 45 goals in 144 games. In 2000 he was with Ionikos in the cup final, which was lost to the AEK Athens . There followed a move to Hibernian Edinburgh in the Scottish homeland. There Brewster was a regular player, but only scored 3 goals in 25 games and left the club at the end of the season for Dunfermline Athletic . At Dunfermline he found his way back to his old form and there were increasing demands from fans and the media to call him up for the national team. However, the then coach Berti Vogts did not nominate him. In November 2004 Brewster was the player-coach at Inverness Caledonian Thistle , who had previously been promoted to the Scottish Premier League . In January 2006 he returned to his hometown club Dundee United , where he also worked as a player-coach, but without success. After nine months, his contract was canceled by mutual agreement and his coaching career was over for the time being, because Brewster then signed a contract as a player at Aberdeen FC . There he played the second half of the 2006/07 season and helped Aberdeen to a good third place in the table and thus qualify for the UEFA Cup .

In the 2007/08 season he scored three goals in the first three games for Aberdeen, but then moved back as a player-coach back to Inverness Caledonian Thistle , where he held the same post from November 2004 to January 2006. Since the 2008/09 season he was no longer part of the players' squad and thus no longer had the opportunity to put himself on the field. On January 19, 2009, the Brewster was released as a coach after 7 defeats in a row. Only a few days later began his next engagement with second division promoted Ross County . There he was active as a player and assistant coach to Derek Adams until December 2010. In the Scottish FA Cup 2009/10 he reached the final with his team, which was lost 3-0 to Dundee United . Shortly after Willie McStay took over the coaching position at Ross County, assistant coach Brewster had to leave the club. In May 2011, the Scot was introduced as the new assistant coach of the English fourth division promoted Crawley Town . By winning the championship, this club had made it to the Football League for the first time in club history .
