Mark Brown (born February 28, 1981 in Motherwell ) is a Scottish football player .

Career start

Mark Brown began his career with Rangers from Glasgow, where he played five competitive games and then moved to Motherwell . Brown made 20 games for the Steelmen before financial problems forced the club to drop 20 players to cut expenses.

Change to Inverness

Brown joined Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the summer of 2002 after convincing coach Steve Paterson . He quickly became an important part of the team at the Caley Jags . Brown completed his first appearances for the Scottish U-21 national team during this time.

After continued good performance, he was appointed to the Scottish B national team, where he came on in April 2005 against the B selection of Austria in the second half.

Transfer to Celtic

Because Brown's contract would have expired in the summer of 2007, Inverness sold him for a six-figure sum to the Scottish champions Celtic, as the club would have lost him at the end of the season for free. Mark Brown is one of the few players who has played for both Old Firm teams, Celtic and Rangers. In September 2009 he switched to FC Kilmarnock on loan to compensate for Alan Combe's injury-related loss .
