Stephen "Mick" McManus (born September 10, 1982 in Lanark ) is a former Scottish football player .

Career

McManus comes from the youth division of Celtic and made his debut in 2003 for the first team under Martin O'Neill . Then he was able to establish himself in the Bhoys team under Gordon Strachan . McManus scored eight goals in the 2005/06 season, which is an impressive figure for a central defender.

McManus wore in the first league game against Kilmarnock of the 2006/07 season Celtics captain's armband, as the regular captain Neil Lennon was suspended. After Lennon moved to Nottingham, McManus was named captain of Celtic Glasgow.

McManus made his international debut for the Scottish national team on October 11, 2006 in the game against Ukraine when he was substituted on. Against Lithuania, "Mick" scored 2-1 for Scotland, where he is an important pillar of the defensive department, for the first time.

On January 29, 2010 he was awarded until the end of the season to the Football League Championship club Middlesbrough FC , which is coached by his former coach Gordon Strachan . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, McManus moved to Middlesbrough for a fee of £ 1,500,000 . In February 2012 it was loaned to Bristol City for a month , followed by another loan to Bristol in October 2012. In July 2013, he signed a contract with Motherwell FC from the Scottish Premier League . Four years later he ended his career as an active player there.
