societies

Francesco Toldo started out as a right- back at a young age . A coach later discovered the tall Toldo's goalkeeping skills. At the age of 17 he moved to the youth department of AC Milan . In the early 1990s, Toldo then played for Trento Calcio and Ravenna Calcio .

In 1993 he moved to Fiorentina , where he was the goalkeeper and won the Coppa Italia twice . After the forced relegation of Fiorentina to Serie B, he was signed by Inter Milan in 2001 for 26.5 million euros .

In the first four years, Toldo was number 1 and won numerous national titles with Inter. From 2005 he lost his regular place to Júlio César . In March 2009, at the age of 37, he extended his contract until 2011.

After winning the UEFA Champions League , Toldo ended his active career as a professional footballer on July 1, 2010.

Goal against Juventus Turin

In the 2002/03 season he scored a 1-1 goal in the game between Inter Milan and Juventus Turin . However, even slow motion pictures could not clearly clarify whether he or Christian Vieri scored the goal. In addition, the scene was controversial because of a claimed foul on the Turin goalkeeper.

National team

He made his debut for the Italian national team on October 8, 1995.

Due to an injury to the goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon , Toldo was seeded at the 2000 European Football Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the semifinals against the Netherlands , he saved three penalties (one in regular time and two on penalties) and played a key role in reaching the final. He was elected to the All-Star Team of this EM.

After the 2004 European Football Championship , Toldo ended his national team career.
