Ruprecht Essberger

Ruprecht Essberger (born March 8, 1923 in Berlin ; † August 8, 2005 in Starnberg ) was a German director and television author .

Essberger comes from a well-known Hamburg shipowner family. He attended the high school for boys in Hamburg-Eppendorf, and in 1941 went to the Navy as a volunteer with a secondary school diploma. After the war he studied literature and art history in Göttingen and Hamburg . In 1953 he began directing for what was then Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk ( NWDR ). Since 1954 with his participation u. a. also around 100 episodes of the Schölermann family television series . The program Das Fernsehgericht meets ran from 1961 to 1978 on ARD . Other series were marriages in court and Das Verkehrsgericht .

On his death, the incumbent NDR television program director, Volker Herres, paid tribute to Essberger as follows: "Ruprecht Essberger is one of the most important representatives of the pioneering generation of German television.
