Nuno Ricardo de Oliveira Ribeiro [ mɐˈniʃɯ̆ ] (born November 11, 1977 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese football player who was both on the left side and in the center.

Career

In the club

He comes from the youth of Benfica Lisbon and was awarded to FC Alverca from 1995 to 1998 . Upon his return, he played for three years in Benfica's regular formation, scoring fourteen goals.

In 2001 he played with the amateurs because of a disagreement with the club's board of directors before moving to FC Porto , where he won the UEFA Cup ( 2003 ) and the UEFA Champions League ( 2004 ) in addition to national titles .

In summer 2005 he moved to Dynamo Moscow for almost twenty million euros . On January 2, 2006, he moved on loan to Chelsea , where he should replace the injured Michael Essien . Essien's original representative Geremi was absent because of his participation in the Africa Cup .

On his return to Moscow, Maniche expressed the desire to switch to a southern European club, as he did not feel comfortable because of the climatic conditions in Russia. He then moved to the Spanish club Atlético Madrid at the end of August 2006 for nine million euros , where he signed a three-year contract. On January 13, 2008, Atlético Madrid loaned him to Inter Milan with immediate effect . For the 2008/09 season he ran again for Atlético . Due to internal difficulties with the club's management, Maniche was removed from the squad at the end of the season, the contract was terminated prematurely in May. After a successful sports medical examination, Maniche was introduced as the new 1. FC Köln player at a press conference in the Austrian training camp on the afternoon of July 20, 2009 . He received a three-year contract with an option to terminate early after two years.

On May 16, 2010 it was announced that the contract will be terminated on June 30, 2010 because Maniche has expressed the wish to move to Sporting Lisbon and thus return to Portugal with his family.

In May 2012, Maniche, who has been without a club since June 2011, announced his retirement from professional football.

In the national team

He made his national team debut in the 2-1 victory over Brazil on March 29, 2003. He took part in the 2004 European Championships in his own country, where he became vice European champion. At this tournament he drew attention to himself with a goal in the semifinals against the Netherlands . He also took part in the 2006 World Cup and finished fourth. Maniche played all seven of his team's games and scored two goals. On July 7, 2006, FIFA announced that Maniche was part of the 23-player All-Star World Cup. Surprisingly, he was not taken into account for the EM 2008 . He made his last international match on March 31, 2009, in the Portuguese 2-0 against South Africa, where he was substituted after 57 minutes. Maniche was also not considered for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .
