Iván Ramiro Cordoba Sepúlveda (born August 11, 1976 in Rionegro , Antioquia ) is a former Colombian football player . From 2000 to 2012, he played as a central defender for Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A . From 2012 to 2014 he was team manager at Inter Milan.
Career
In the club
Córdoba started his professional career in 1994 with Deportivo Rionegro in the Colombian second division, until he moved to the first at Atlético Nacional in 1996 . A year later he moved to San Lorenzo in the Argentine first division, where he attracted attention as a very solid and fast defender. "Not only is he the fastest defender in South America, but in the whole world." This is what Oscar Ruggeri , Iván Córdoba's coach at the Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro said .
In the 2000 season, many top European clubs took notice of him. He finally decided against Real Madrid and was brought to Italy by the traditional club Inter Milan , where he held a regular place for many years.
In February 2008 Iván Córdoba suffered a knee injury in the Champions League match against Liverpool FC and was out for several months. On September 16, he made his comeback in the Champions League game against Panathinaikos Athens .
On June 9, 2008, he extended his contract with Inter until 2012. In his last years at Inter, however, Córdoba was only a supplementary player and as such often had to give way to younger colleagues. On May 6, 2012, Córdoba played their last official game against AC Milan in the shirt of Inter. With 455 competitive appearances for the Milanese, he is one of the ten players with the most appearances for the Lombard club.
In the national team
On June 16, 1997, Córdoba made his debut for the Colombian national team in the Copa América against Costa Rica . First, he became a regular player in the position of central defender and played nine international matches in the 1997 calendar year. At the 1998 World Cup in France , he was part of the squad of his national team, but was not used during the tournament.
In 1999 he took part with Colombia in the Copa America in Paraguay . In the second game of the tournament he scored his first international goal against Argentina (3-0). In 2001 Córdoba won the Copa America with the Colombian national team in his home country. In the final on July 29, 2001, Mexico were defeated 1-0, with Cordoba scoring the winning goal.
Other tournaments in which Córdoba participated with the Colombian national team were the Confederations Cup in 2003 in France and the Copa America in 2007 in Venezuela .
After his time as an active person
After Córdoba had ended his career as a football player following the 2011/12 season , he became team manager at Inter Milan.
Private life
Together with his wife, Córdoba founded the Colombia te quiere ver foundation in 2004 . This takes care of needy children in his home country Colombia.
