Maxwell , with full name Maxwell Scherrer Cabelino Andrade (born August 27, 1981 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim ), is a former Brazilian soccer player who has also had Dutch citizenship since his time at Ajax Amsterdam .
Career
For the 2001/02 season Maxwell moved abroad to the Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam . After the 03/04 season, the technician was named Footballer of the Year in the Netherlands , which is a special privilege for a left-back.
On January 2, 2006 Maxwell was able to move to the traditional Italian club Inter Milan for free . However, due to the restrictions on foreigners, he was awarded to FC Empoli and was only added to the Inter squad for the 2006/07 season. With Inter, Maxwell won the Italian Supercup (2006, 2008) and the championship title (2007, 2008).
During the summer break of 2009, FC Barcelona signed Maxwell for a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros plus a special payment of 500,000 euros. With Barcelona he became Spanish champion twice (2010, 2011).
During the winter break of 2012, Maxwell moved to Paris Saint-Germain . He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract until June 30, 2015 and was given the number 17. The transfer fee was four million euros. He won the championship title with the French for four years in a row (2013-2016). By winning the French League Cup in 2017, Maxwell became the most successful footballer in the world with 36 titles won.
After the 2016/17 season, Maxwell ended his active football career. He is still active for PSG as deputy sports director.
Skills
Maxwell is a technically very strong left-footer, who is preferred as a left defender, but can also play in the left midfield. His precise passes and his offensive advances are his greatest strengths, but he has weaknesses in the header game.
