Bumba-meu-boi

Bumba-meu-boi ( pt .; Literally: "Get up, my ox!" ) Is a dramatic dance cycle of Brazilian music that belongs to the group of Pastorís . The main characters are a harlequin ( Arlequim ), borrowed from Italian opera , and an ox ( Boi ), whose death and resurrection is the main theme of the action. The game is widespread in large parts of Brazil , local variants are the Boi-Bumba , Boi-reis and Boi-surubí . In the north-east and north of Brazil, different drums are used for musical accompaniment; in the south, the accordion ( Sanfona or Gaita-de-foles ) is used.

The bumba-meu-boi is still very popular today. The Bumba-meu-boi-Volksfest in Parintins (Amazonas), among others, has made it internationally known through media broadcasts . It is a competition for the most successful performance of the dance game, which every year with a lot of passion, gorgeous costumes, lots of music, fanfare and Bumbum between the two parties of the Blue ( Boi Caprichoso ) and the Red ( Boi Garantido will be held). For this festival there is a separate, large stadium in Parintins, which is called Bumbódromo after the Sambódromo in the carnival in Rio .

The boi-bumbá festival Folclórico de Parintins in Parintins is registered as a cultural heritage of Brazil with the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN).
