Cachoeiro de Itapemirim , officially Município de Cachoeiro de Itapemirim , is a city in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo . According to official estimates as of July 1, 2016, it has 210,325 inhabitants, making it the fifth largest city in the state.

The place emerged from the Vila de São Pedro do Cachoeiro de Itapemirim , which was founded on November 23, 1864 , or Vila do Cachoeiro for short , previously a district of the city of Itapemirim . The town received city rights as Cachoeiro de Itapemirim after the founding of the federal state by state decree No. 4 of December 26, 1889, the actual emancipation did not take place until 1890.

The city has been the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim since 1958 . It has been led by Bishop Dario Campos since 2011 .
