Linhares , officially Portuguese Município de Linhares , is a city in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo . The large community area borders the Atlantic Ocean in the east with over 100 km of coastline, and there are numerous lakes in the interior.
It had an estimated 170,364 inhabitants as of July 1, 2018, making it the sixth largest city in the state. The actual city lies on the left bank of the upper reaches of the Rio Doce , which drains into the Atlantic in the Regência district of the municipality .
The Brazilian federal highway BR-101 runs through the city , one of the most important roads in the country, which follows a large part of the Atlantic coast of Brazil from north to south.
