Paulo Herkenhoff

Paulo Herkenhoff (* 1949 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim in the state of Espírito Santo ) is a Brazilian curator , art critic and museum director.

life and work

Paulo Herkenhoff was the chief curator of the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro from 1985 to 1990 . In 1998 he was artistic director of the 24th São Paulo Biennale and curator for the Brazilian Pavilion at the 47th Venice Biennale . He worked as a curator for the painting and sculpture department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1999 to 2002.

From 2003 to 2006, Herkenhoff was director of the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro .

Herkenhoff was a member of the documenta 12 search committee in 2007 . He has given guest lectures at various universities and has published articles in magazines, exhibition catalogs and books by internationally renowned exhibition houses, including Tate Modern (London), Center Georges Pompidou (Paris), Musée National d'Art Moderne (Paris) and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona) ).
