Santiago Hernán Solari Poggio (born October 7, 1976 in Rosario ) is a former Argentine football player and current coach .
Career
As a player
Solari began his career in 1994 with Newell's Old Boys and the local amateur club Renato Cesarini . In 1996 he moved to Buenos Aires , to River Plate . In 1999 he was transferred to the Spanish league at Atlético Madrid , and then in 2000 to local rivals Real Madrid .
The midfielder has had his greatest successes at Real Madrid, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2002 and the Spanish championship in 2001 and 2003.
2005 Santiago Solari has signed a three-year contract with Inter Milan and moved to the Serie A .
At the end of June 2008, Inter Milan did not extend the expiring contract and Solari moved back to his home country Argentina to San Lorenzo free of charge . In July 2009 he moved to Mexico. There he signed a contract with the first division club CF Atlante .
As a trainer
From January to June 2016 trained Solari the A-youth of Real Madrid . Since the 2016/17 season he was the head coach of the second team .
After Julen Lopetegui was dismissed , Solari temporarily took over the first team on October 30, 2018, which was 9th in the Primera División with 14 points after ten matchdays . After four wins from four competitive games, he was confirmed as head coach and given a contract that runs until June 30, 2021. Solari was able to stabilize the team in the league at first and moved with her in the UEFA Champions League as group first in the round of 16, with the highest home defeat in their own European Cup history against CSKA Moscow on the last group match day . In December 2018 he won the Club World Championship , in which one prevailed against the Kashima Antlers and the al Ain Club . Solari, also known as El Indiecito , is the nephew of Jorge Solari and the cousin of Fernando Redondo , both former Argentine internationals .
Almost the entire Solaris family is shaped by football. His father Eduardo and two of his four siblings (his younger brothers Esteban Solari and David Solari ) are also footballers.
His sister Liz Maria Solari is a model .
