Nelson Enrique Rivas López (born March 25, 1983 in Pradera , Valle del Cauca , Colombia ) is a Colombian football player . He plays the position of central defender . He is currently without a club.
Career

Nelson Rivas started his career with Deportivo Pasto in his native Colombia in 2002 . He was initially a wanderer and changed clubs four times between 2002 and 2007 until the traditional Italian club Inter Milan signed him . He played for his home clubs Deportivo Cali , Deportes Tolima , and then again for Deportivo Cali before moving to the Argentine big club River Plate . There he performed well, which is why he was signed by Inter. With the Milanese he won the Italian championship and the Italian Supercup in 2008. On October 4, 2008, he was seriously injured in the game against FC Bologna and was out until the end of the year.
At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Rivas was awarded for one year to AS Livorno . After Rivas hardly made any appearances in the league in the new season, he was loaned out to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for half a year in January 2011 .
On August 31, 2011, the contract between Inter and Rivas, the term of which had been dated June 2012, was terminated by mutual consent.
Rivas signed a new contract with Montreal Impact and played from the 2012 season in Major League Soccer , where he was used eleven times. Towards the end of the season he injured his left knee and had to undergo an operation. The rehabilitation went very badly, so that Rivas could not play a game in the 2013 season . After further setbacks in the healing process, Rivas and Montreal Impact terminated the contract in February 2014 by mutual agreement.
