Ignazio Abate (born November 12, 1986 in Sant'Agata de 'Goti ) is an Italian football player .

Career

Abate comes from the youth of AC Milan . He joined FC Empoli in Serie B in 2007 via loan positions at SSC Napoli , Sampdoria Genoa , Piacenza Calcio and FC Modena . In the summer of 2008 he was signed jointly by AC Milan and FC Turin to gain match practice with the Turin team.

From 2009 to 2019 Abate made 243 league games for AC Milan and was Italian champion in the 2010/11 season . After ten years with Milan, he left the club in the summer of 2019 when his contract expired.

After going through several youth selections, Abate was part of the Italian selection at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. With the selection he won the Olympics against Honduras and Korea and drew against Cameroon. In 2009 he took part in the U-21 European Football Championship in Sweden .

On November 11, 2011 Abate made his debut in a 2-0 win in the friendly against Poland in Wroclaw under Cesare Prandelli in the Italian national team . He scored his first international goal on November 15, 2013 against Germany , when he equalized for Italy in a 1-1 draw. Typical position of Abate is the right full defense , where he joins the attack with sprints on the right wing.
