Philibert Smellinckx (born January 17, 1911 in Saint-Gilles , † April 8, 1977 ) was a Belgian football player on the position of a defender .

career

society

Smellinckx was active at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise between 1928 and 1946 . He completed 367 games for his club, in which he scored seven goals, and was part of the legendary Union 60 , which remained unbeaten in 60 consecutive league games in the First Division between January 1933 and February 1935 . During this period he won the Belgian championship three times in a row with his club. In the years 1946-1949 he let his career end with the lower class club Gosselies Sport .

National team

Between 1933 and 1938 Smellinckx played 19 games for the Belgian national team , in which he did not score. He was in the Belgian squad for the 1934 World Cup , in which he was used in the game against Germany (2: 5). Smellinckx was also appointed to the squad for the 1938 World Cup , but not used in the course of the tournament.
