Axel Smeets (born July 12, 1974 in Brussels ) is a former Belgian - Congolese football player . The defensive player made his career in Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey and Norway.
Athletic career
Smeets comes from the youth of RSC Anderlecht . In 1993 he began his professional career at Standard Liège , but after a season he joined the KAA Gent . From there he moved to the Spanish club UD Salamanca in 1997 , but where he could not prevail. Therefore, after a year he returned to Belgium and joined the KV Kortrijk . In 1999 he went to the English club Sheffield United . His stay abroad was again unsuccessful, so he returned to Belgium and went to Lierse SK . In 2003 he tried his hand at MKE Ankaragücü again abroad, but at the end of the season switched to the Tippeligaen to Ham-Kam . There he ended his career in 2006.
