Paul Put (born May 26, 1956 in Belgium ) is a Belgian football coach . He was an active player himself.
Career
player
Put began his professional football career in 1965 at Beerschot VAC . In 1976 he moved for one season to league rivals Tubantia Borgerhout . From 1977 to 1980 he played three more seasons for Beerschot. This was followed by positions at KSV Oudenaarde , VC Rotselaar , KSV Bornem , Union Saint-Gilloise , KFC Herentals and FC Wilrijk , before ending his career with Tubantia Borgerhout with a final season in 1979/80.
Trainer
As early as 1988 he was a coach at his last club, Tubantia Borgerhout. From 1994 to 1996 his path led him to Sint-Niklase SK . As a result, Put was the head coach of VC Tielen for two years . After a year with KFC Verbroedering Geel , he signed with KRC Harelbeke . He stayed there until 2003.
From 2004 Put was a trainer at Lierse SK and had a contract until 2008 with the option of an extension for a further two years. Put was released on November 3, 2005 due to the team's poor performance in winter 2005/06.
On February 5, 2006, a television broadcast announced that Put and 13 other people were involved in the Belgian football betting scandal involving Chinese entrepreneur Ye Zheyun . This allegation was confirmed two weeks later. Put was fired by Excelsior Mouscron's management on February 17, 2006. He was banned from all tasks in football for three years.
On May 19, 2008 it was announced that he would be the coach of the Gambian national soccer team .
The contract with Put was terminated on October 31, 2011, the reason given was the failure to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations. In 2012 he took over the Burkinabe national soccer team as head coach. He was released from his post there in February 2015.
In June 2015 he took over as coach of the Jordanian national soccer team . In November 2015 he was temporarily suspended for two weeks by the Jordanian Football Association. He resigned from his post in January 2016.
