Roberto Amadei

Roberto Amadei (born February 13, 1933 in Verdello , Bergamo province , Italy , † December 29, 2009 in Bergamo ) was a Roman Catholic church historian and Bishop of Bergamo .

Life

At the age of eleven, Amadi entered the seminary of Clusone , later switched to the seminary of Bergamo and studied theology at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome . After he was ordained a priest in March 1957, he completed a doctorate in church history from 1957 to 1960 at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He then worked in the pastoral care of his diocese of Bergamo until 1978. He supported the secular institute "Caritas Christi" and was a member of the Diocesan Council from 1984 to 1990. In 1984 Pope John Paul II appointed him Honorary Prelate of His Holiness .

From 1960 to 1990 Roberto Amadei was Professor of Church History at the Bergamo Seminary, whose Dean of the Faculty of Theology he was from 1968 to 1981 and Rector from 1981 to 1990.

On April 21, 1990, Amadei was appointed Bishop of Savona-Noli by Pope John Paul II ; on June 2, 1990, Roberto Amadei received episcopal ordination from the diocesan bishop of Bergamo, Giulio Oggioni ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Clemente Gaddi and Auxiliary Bishop Angelo Paravisi . He chose his motto Plus amari quam timeri (“More to be loved than to be feared”) from the Regula Benedicti .

After the resignation of Bishop Oggioni, he was appointed Bishop of Bergamo on November 21, 1991 by Pope John Paul II and made his solemn entry on January 26, 1992.

On January 22, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation of Amadei and appointed the previous auxiliary bishop of Brescia , Francesco Beschi, as his successor.
