The Diocese of Bergamo ( Latin : Dioecesis Bergomensis , Italian : Diocesi di Bergamo ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church around the Italian city of Bergamo . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Milan and includes 489 parishes. The territory of the diocese extends largely over the province of Bergamo . The diocese came into being in the 4th century. The patron saint of the diocese is Alexander of Bergamo , who suffered martyrdom around 297.
