Alexander of Bergamo

Saint Alexander of Bergamo was a Roman soldier in the Theban Legion . He died a martyr's death after desecrating idols in the presence of Emperor Maximian . He is the patron saint of Bergamo . His festival is celebrated on August 26th.

In connection with the transfer of Alexander's relics, the chapel of St. Ursula in Kempraten is mentioned for the first time in 835 : a deacon of the Fulda Abbey was warmly welcomed by a beneficial priest in Kempraten on his return trip from Italy .
