Roel Brouwers (born November 28, 1981 in Heerlen ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

society

Brouwers began playing football at RKVV Weltania Heerlen when he was four years old . At the age of eleven, he moved to the youth department of the Dutch first division club Roda Kerkrade . In the summer of 2005 he moved to the German second division club SC Paderborn on loan from Roda . A year later he was firmly committed. Brouwers was an immediate regular player. In the 2006/07 season he played 33 of 34 second division games for SC Paderborn.

For the 2007/08 season Brouwers moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach . There he was one of the top performers in the 2007/08 promotion year. In December 2007 he was voted the best defender of the first half of the season by the fans. At the end of the season he was promoted back to the Bundesliga with Borussia. In the 2014/15 season he was initially only a reservist. An injury to regular Martin Stranzl brought him some missions in the second half of the season. His contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach ran until 2016.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , Brouwers received a two-year contract with Roda Kerkrade, but ended his career on October 2, 2016.

National team

Brouwers was once nominated for the Dutch U-21 , but was not used. After good performances in the 2009/10 season, he was also part of the Dutch senior team and was also considered a candidate for the squad for the 2010 World Cup , but was not nominated by coach Bert van Marwijk .
