Youth and breakthrough in the Vienna City League

Korkmaz was born in Vienna as the son of Turkish migrants and is both an Austrian and a Turkish citizen. He came into contact with football in his earliest youth in the Forschneritsch Park in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus . His first club was SC Wacker Vienna . After the club was dissolved in 1996, Korkmaz moved to the youth of Slovan / HAC at the age of eleven , where he went through all the junior stations and finally came to the first division team . With his speed, his already good technique and strong tempo dribbles, he drew the attention of the Bundesliga club scouts .

In the summer of 2005, coach Andreas Reisinger brought the 20-year-old talent to the Rapid Amateurs in the Vienna City League . Despite a break due to a broken hand, he led the young team to the championship title and promotion to the Regionalliga Ost for the first time with twelve goals this season and 24 assists . During the current season, he received his first professional contract with the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien in the spring of 2006 and thus jumped four levels within a year. In his first and only season with the amateurs, the 16 city league coaches, the sports journalists of the Kronenzeitung and the reporters from www.wienerliga.at voted him the best player and best midfielder of the 2005/06 season.

Bundesliga time at Rapid

Under Georg Zellhofer , the midfielder made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga in 2006 with a brief appearance against Mattersburg . For the first time from the start he played against FC Wacker Tirol on September 16, 2006 . In the 2006/07 season he played 24 of 36 games for Rapid, 19 times in the starting lineup. A year later he was instrumental in ensuring that Rapid could secure the 32nd championship. Especially his strong performances in the spring contributed to his making the leap into the German Bundesliga.

Change to the German Bundesliga

For the 2008/09 season Korkmaz signed with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga . There he broke his metatarsal bone during the first training session and was unable to take part in the preparations and the first competitive games. After recovering from an injury, he made his Bundesliga debut in the home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on October 18 . After a duel with Michael Fink in training on November 12th, Korkmaz was seriously injured again, the first diagnosis was again metatarsal fracture. On May 9, 2009 in Hanover, Korkmaz scored his first Bundesliga goal for Eintracht Frankfurt. In 37 Bundesliga games for Eintracht , he scored a total of three goals.

On January 26, 2011, Eintracht Frankfurt announced that Korkmaz would be loaned to VfL Bochum until the end of the 2010/11 season . In his second game for Bochum, in which he was on the starting line-up for the first time, he scored the equalizer in the 2-1 VfL against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . For the 2011/12 season he returned to Eintracht, who had since been relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga , and moved to FC Ingolstadt 04 for the 2012/13 season .

In the spring of 2014 Korkmaz moved to the Turkish Süper Lig to Çaykur Rizespor . He signed a three and a half year contract here and played with a local player license. In November 2016 he left Rizespor.

Return to Austria and move to the lower house

In January 2017 he moved back to Austria for Bundesliga club SKN St. Pölten , where he received a contract that was valid until June 2017. In July 2017 he moved to the regional division FC Karabakh Wien , which was renamed FC Mauerwerk in 2018 . During the winter break of the 2018/19 season, he moved to the fifth-rate First Vienna FC , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2020.

National team

After Korkmaz's strong spring season in 2007, he was also an issue for the Austrian national team , but had to cancel several times due to injury. On May 27, 2008, he finally made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria . A day later he was appointed to the squad for the 2008 European Championship . He was used in all three Austrian games. After being thrown back again and again by some injuries, he was unable to participate in major phases of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup. On May 19, 2010 he made his comeback in the national team in a 1-0 draw against Croatia after a break of more than a year.
