Career
Thomas Hübener played in his youth at TuSpo Richrath and Union Solingen before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the age of 16 . The defender began his career in 2001 with the amateurs of Bayer Leverkusen. In 2002 he moved to Fortuna Cologne . For the 2004/05 season, Hübener returned to Bayer Leverkusen's second team. From there he made the leap into the professional squad of the Werkself, for which he sat on the reserve bench several times in the Bundesliga , the UEFA Cup and the Champions League .
For the 2007/08 season , Thomas Hübener moved to the Regionalliga Nord for SG Dynamo Dresden , with whom he qualified for the single-track 3rd division in the first season . Under coach Matthias Maucksch , the defender became team captain in early 2010 . At the end of the 2010/11 season, he led the team into relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Dresden team after they beat VfL Osnabrück .
For the 2011/12 season Thomas Hübener moved to the second division relegated Arminia Bielefeld . There he took over the shirt number 5 from Rüdiger Kauf . After a disappointing 13th place in the table in the first year, he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with Arminia in the 2012/13 season . After Markus Schuler ended his career in 2012, Hübener was also the captain of the Arminia until autumn 2013. On June 3, 2014, FC Energie Cottbus announced that Thomas Hübener was transferring to the relegated second division free of charge. There he met his former trainer Stefan Krämer . In March 2016, Hübener was suspended from the club because, according to coach Vasile Miriuta, he "spread a bad mood". After relegation to the regional league, Hübener left the club and ended his career.
In the summer of 2017, Hübener opened a Crossfit studio in his hometown of Langenfeld .
