Jörgen Joakim Nilsson (born February 6, 1994 in Härnösand ) is a Swedish football player . The central defender is under contract with Arminia Bielefeld and made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2016 .

Career

Nilsson, whose older brother Per was successful as a professional footballer, comes from the youth of IF Älgarna . He made his adult debut for the club at the age of 15 before joining GIF Sundsvall in 2011 . There he first played in the youth division, and towards the end of 2012 he moved up to the competition team. There it took until his debut in the second-rate Superettan until September 2013, but initially the breakthrough was denied and in the promotion season of 2014 he played eight appearances. In the Allsvenskan he finally established himself in the team and played 20 of the 30 league games. In parallel, he played himself in 2015 in the Swedish Under-21 team , the following year in the senior team .

After Nilsson had completed his first internationals in January 2016 as part of the traditional January tour of the national team, he moved to IF Elfsborg within Allsvenskan in February . While he was only used sporadically there, young talent selection coach Håkan Ericson included him in the Swedish U23 squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics . He played the first two group games, but missed the team's entry into the knockout round. At the beginning of the 2017 season , he had asserted himself as a regular on the defensive at his club and was then part of the squad at the 2017 U21 European Championship in the summer of that year , but remained there without commitment and was eliminated with the defending champion in the group stage.

In July 2019, his move to the German 2nd Bundesliga was announced. At Arminia Bielefeld , the defender received a three-year contract. On his debut for Ostwestfalen against Erzgebirge Aue, Nilsson was able to score his first goal for the club.
