history

Founded in February 1919, IF Älgarna initially played lower class. In 1941 the club first drew attention to itself when it reached the final of the Norrländska Mästerskapet . In 1951, the team rose to the third division and benefited the following year from a league reform, as the northern Swedish teams were integrated into the Swedish league pyramid and therefore the number of second division seasons was increased to three. In Division 2 Norrland , the club occupied the last non-relegation place in the first season, but had nine points ahead of relegated GIF Sundsvall , Sollefteå GIF and Ljunga IF . In the 1954/55 season, however, only four wins this season and together with IF Friska Viljor and Skutkärs IF , the team rose again to the third division.

With five points behind the season winner IF Friska Viljor, IF Älgarna missed the direct rise. After the promotion was missed in the following year behind the defeated competitor IFK Östersund , the club returned in 1958 as champions of Division 3 Mellersta Norrland in the second division. Again, the stay in the second division lasted only two seasons, as the bottom of the table, the club rose again in 1960. First he played for promotion, in 1964 the team failed only in the promotion round at Brynäs IF .

In 1966 IF Älgarna was relegated to fourth class. Initially placed there only in the middle of the table, in 1971 they were promoted to the third division. Here the team lasted two seasons, but managed to get promoted again immediately after relegation in 1973. After relegation in 1976, the club established itself on the fourth level. 1983 IF Älgarna returned to the third division, but was victim of a league reform in 1986 and came back to the fourth division.

At the end of 1990 IF Älgarna rose again to the third division. In the spring series, sixth in the table, the club managed to stay fifth in the autumn. In the spring series, however, only managed one win of the season, so the club had to compete in fourth class again in the fall. Here the Klb placed in a row in the back of the table and ended the 1995 season on a relegation place. Although the team was in the round after two wins and one draw in a direct duel against Brunflo FK level on points with the competitor, but rose due to the poorer goal difference in the fifth division.

The stay in the fifth division only lasted one season for IF Älgarnan, as the season winner the club prevailed in the promotion round. In the fourth division, the team played against relegation, which was no longer avoided in 2000. In 2004 the club rose again, but fell victim to a league reform. Due to the introduction of Division 1 as the new third highest division, the club was relegated to the sixth division as the table penultimate. From this, the club rose in 2007 and then made the direct march through to the fourth-class Division 2 .
