Reiner Künkel (born April 9, 1950 in Wiesenbach ) is a former German football player .

Career

Künkel started playing soccer at his hometown club FV Wiesenbach, then moved to the neighboring FV Breidenbach . From 1970 he played for KSV Hessen Kassel in the Regionalliga Süd for four years . In 1974 he moved to SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga South . In Darmstadt he scored 13 goals in 24 games in his first season, and 16 goals in 17 games in the first half of the 1975/76 season. Three times he scored three or more goals in a game. In October 1975 he scored nine goals in three consecutive games, including five against 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 on October 4th . In that game, he also scored a flawless hat trick within six minutes. In the DFB Cup he was used three times for Darmstadt and scored once in the goal.

Due to his achievements, various clubs became aware of him, including the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen , 1. FC Cologne and FC Bayern Munich . Bayern finally signed him during the 1975/76 winter break. However, he could not prevail in the Bundesliga . In his first half year he was only used four times in the Bundesliga (two goals) and once in the DFB Cup . In the next two years he was used in 29 other Bundesliga games, scoring four goals. He played three times in the European Cup and in the UEFA Cup . In every competition he scored one goal, including the 1-0 winner in the quarter-final first leg against Dynamo Kiev . In the duel for the UEFA Super Cup against RSC Anderlecht , he was used in both games in 1976. There were also six more appearances and two goals in the DFB Cup. Without commitment, he won the 1976 European Cup and the World Cup with the team .

In 1978 he moved back to the 2nd Bundesliga South and played for 1. FC Saarbrücken for two years . There he scored 33 goals in 64 games. He also scored twice in two appearances in the DFB Cup , but his team never got past the second round. For the 1980 season he moved to SC Viktoria Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Here, too, he scored 14 times in 42 games. He improved his statistics to 76 goals in 147 second division games. Later, Künkel was active as a player-coach at several Hessian amateur clubs, including VfL Biedenkopf, SC Gladenbach and VfL Marburg .
