The sports club Spielberg 1920 e. V. is a football club from the Karlovy Vary district of Spielberg in Baden, which has around 2,800 residents . The club plays its home games on the Spielberg sports field in the Talberg stadium.
history
SV Spielberg was founded on May 7, 1920. In 1950 he was promoted to the A-class, which was followed by promotion to the 2nd amateur league in 1970. The club first received national attention when it qualified for the 1975/76 DFB Cup . In the first main round they lost on August 2, 1975 3: 4 at SpVgg Eintracht Höhr-Grenzhausen .
After relegation to the district class in 1983, they were promoted to the state league in 1987, followed by promotion to the Baden association league in 1994 . In 2009 the SV Spielberg won the association league and was promoted to the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga . There you could not hold the class as fifteenth in the table, so that the club competed in the association league again in the 2010/11 season. On the last match day of the 2010/11 season, SV Spielberg won the new association league championship against VfR Mannheim and thus gained direct promotion back to the league. There they secured relegation on the last day of the season 2011/12 . The SVS was also found in the lower third of the table in the following two years. It was not until the 2014/15 season that a small success story emerged in which first place in the table was achieved and held for 34 match days. On May 23, 2015 SV Spielberg won the last league game against SGV Freiberg with a 2-2 in stoppage time, the last point necessary to keep the persistent pursuer Bahlinger SC at a distance and to secure the championship in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. The club has achieved its greatest success in its history and was promoted directly to the fourth-class Regionalliga Südwest . The class could not be held, there was an immediate relegation. In the following year, the SVS was able to assert itself in the midfield with 10th place in the table, but in 2018/19 the relegation to the association league followed at the bottom.
