Spielberg is a district of the municipality of Karlsbad in the southern district of Karlsruhe . It belongs alongside the communities in Albtal to Albgau .
history
The place was settled from Grünwettersbach . The year of the first documentary mention is in the examination, the numbers 1161 and 1281 are given. In 1281 Spilberch was pledged by the Counts of Zweibrücken and Eberstein to the Margraviate of Baden , sold to the Herrenalb monastery in 1296 and, with its secularization, actually fell to Württemberg in the middle of the 16th century . In 1603 Württemberg ceded the former monastery office Langensteinbach , to which Spielberg belonged, to the margraviate of Baden-Durlach . Politically, Spielberg came after the dissolution of the Langensteinbach office from 1803 to 1821 to the Oberamt Pforzheim , from 1821 to 1921 to the district office Durlach and then to the district office Ettlingen . In 1937, Spielberg was assigned to the Karlsruhe district . Spielberg has been part of the newly founded municipality of Karlsbad since September 1, 1971 .
The Evangelical parish of Spielberg became independent in 1928. Before that, it was a subsidiary of Langensteinbach. The medieval chapel of St. Jakob was replaced by a new church in 1732–34, which was supplemented in 1830 by two side wings with galleries and a sacristy.
Legend
According to legend, however, the mountain on which today's Spielberg is located is said to have been used by the Romans. That is why the name “Spiegelberg”, translated from Latin, has survived into modern times. The background to the legend is that Roman communication channels were passed on as quickly as possible through fire and mirror reflections at the highest point via the wooden tower of that time.
Ortneckname
The Spielbergers are also called "Gockler". When Spielberg became Protestant in times of frequent change of faith, the former Catholic chapel also had to be converted into a Protestant church. But the community was too poor to buy a weathercock , often roof decorations from Protestant churches. Now the Spielbergers were of the opinion that Langensteinbach had to help them, since the place was politically assigned to the Langensteinbach office and was a church branch of Langensteinbach. When a corresponding application was rejected from there, fate came to the rescue of the Spielbergers. A storm had thrown the tap from the Langensteinbach church. The Spielbergers took this opportunity and stole the tap without further ado. The Langensteinbachers searched for a long time for the rooster ( dialect Gockler ) that had disappeared without a trace , until one day they saw him on the Spielberg church tower. Of course, the Spielbergers had to return the stolen goods, but were given the nickname "Göckler" for this. This is how the Spielbergers are still called today.
