Location of Mutschelbach in Karlsbad

Mutschelbach is a district of the municipality of Karlsbad in the district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The history of Mutschelbach can be traced back to the year 1278. Originally Mutschelbach consisted of two villages - the Baden Wuerttemberg and the Obermutschelbach Untermutschelbach, the latter is in the valley of the then as Steinbach referred Bock Bach . In the beginning there was no village "Mittelmutschelbach". This is where the Baden-Württemberg state border ran. It was not until the 18th century that individual Württemberg subjects were allowed to live there in Baden territory.

In June 1701, 19 Waldensian families settled in Untermutschelbach, thus preventing the place from becoming extinct after the Thirty Years' War . They were given 196 acres of land.

Duke Eberhard Ludwig (Württemberg) allocated 30 hectares of forest to eleven families he had ordered to Untermutschelbach. There were growing pine trees from whose sap in ovens on the twigs square axle grease was cooked.

Hence the name “ lubricant burner” for the Obermutschelbachers, although it is used today for all Mutschelbachers. The Unterbacher were called Kienstumpen and Kiwwelescheißer . The reason for this name is based on the custom that farmers used to defecate on buckets in order to be able to use it as fertilizer for their fields.

With the exchange and epuration agreement , Untermutschelbach in Württemberg became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 . Untermutschelbach then had 180 Lutherans and 79 Waldensians, in 1843 there were a total of 307 inhabitants. At the beginning the Untermutschelbacher Waldensians only owned a wooden church, this was replaced by a stone one at the end of the 18th century. In 1821 the Waldensians united with the Evangelical Lutheran regional church . As a result, the Waldensian Church, which had become obsolete, was demolished.

In 1936 the community Mutschelbach was founded from the three villages Ober-, Mittel- and Untermutschelbach. On September 1, 1971, the places Auerbach, Ittersbach, Langensteinbach, Mutschelbach and Spielberg merged to form the municipality of Karlsbad. This ended the centuries of independence of the five districts.
