Albgau is the name of the Albtal with the communities Waldbronn and Karlsbad in the northern part of the Black Forest . The name is common, especially in clubs, but also a city railway line of the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (KVV), a swimming pool in Ettlingen and a conservation area in Waldbronn. In Roman times, wood was rafted on the Alb. Individual field names indicate mining that has long been extinct. Only in the High Middle Ages did the first small settlements appear in the long valley floor: Herrenalb (1148/49), Frauenalb (around 1185), Marxzell (1255), Kochmühle (1288) near Neurod . The nature of the Alb valley is rather steep and narrow and, due to the sandstone subsoil, rather barren; these are certainly reasons for the late development.
