Sparhandy is a brand of powwow GmbH , a German telecommunications company based in Cologne. It markets vendor-independent cell phone contracts and mobile devices and is also active as a cell phone provider.
history
Sparhandy.de was founded in 2000 as a one-man business by Wilke Stroman in East Frisia . The company has been based in Cologne since 2003.
In August 2010 Sparhandy GmbH took over the Bochum-based mobile communications wholesaler ebotrade GmbH and invested 2.5 million euros in the warehouse and logistics complex completed in 2014 with 1000 m² of storage space and 1300 m² of office space, where over 150 employees are employed. In June 2013 Sparhandy GmbH and ElectronicPartner Handel SE entered into a strategic cooperation in which the Düsseldorf group ElectronicPartner acquired a minority stake in Sparhandy.
On 2 February 2015, the company launched the teleshopping transmitter Sparhandy.tv which can be received via satellite and hour sales shows shows its products. In June 2019, the station carried out a comprehensive brand relaunch and has been broadcasting under the name Handystar ever since.
In 2015 ElectronicPartner increased its stake to 50.1 percent. In November 2015, the Dortmund-based WES Kommunikation GmbH announced that a strategic partnership would be entered into with Sparhandy GmbH.
The name change took place in April 2016: Sparhandy GmbH became SH Telekommunikation Deutschland GmbH. In addition, SH Telekommunikation GmbH and EP expanded their strategic cooperation and formed a sales organization from July 1, 2016, which included the integration of EP employees in the new areas of cardware, services and retail sales, as well as the takeover of the service management (infrastructure) . In addition, SH Telekommunikation acquired the trademark rights to getmobile at the end of June 2016 and took over the registered word and image mark, as well as the getmobile domain and the Facebook presence. In August of the same year, Badenova and SH Telekommunikation Deutschland GmbH founded Sparstrom GmbH and offer nationwide electricity and gas supply at sparstrom.de.
In 2019 the company was taken over by the Swiss company Mobilezone .
In April 2020, the company was renamed again: SH Telekommunikation Deutschland GmbH became powwow GmbH.
Products
Sparhandy has been working with all network operators and the most important service providers since it was founded. Sparhandy combines their tariffs with cell phone models. In the early years, the bundling offers customary at the time were used , in which the mobile phone contract also had the function of making indirect financing offers for the hardware to the customer. With the establishment of the first flat rate offers on the market, Sparhandy said goodbye to this model and relied fully on the brokerage of the new tariff concept.
In 2000, the company began placing mobile phone contracts directly through the providers The Phonehouse, Mobilcom (now Mobilcom-Debitel), and Victorvox (now Drillisch Telecom GmbH). Network operator contracts have also been offered since 2005. Mobile phones from various manufacturers such as Samsung , Huawei, Honor, Sony and Apple have not only been offered in combination with mobile phone contracts since 2011, but can also be purchased directly from Sparhandy.de without a contract. Since July 2014, Sparhandy has also been offering its own all-network flat-rate tariffs in the Telekom network. In April 2019, the new HIGH brand was launched to market its own tariffs. In addition, Sparhandy.de has been marketing DSL offers on its website for several years.
Awards
Sparhandy.de was the first online shop in its category to be awarded the TÜV Süd seal of approval and also received the Trusted Shops seal of approval.
In 2013 Sparhandy was recognized as an exemplary employer in the “Top Job Award”.
From 2012–2015 Sparhandy was one of the winners of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Awards .
