The Dr. Theiss Naturwaren GmbH is a manufacturer of natural remedies and natural care products. The company is family-owned and has its headquarters in Homburg, Saarland .

The group of companies has 2000 employees worldwide, around 510 of them at the headquarters in Homburg and 500 in Russia.

Company founder

Peter Theiss (born July 19, 1944 in Homburg) spent his school days in Homburg. After his internship at the Carolus pharmacy in Frankfurt / Main and the pre-exam in Wiesbaden, he studied pharmacy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1971 to 1976 he was a doctoral student in the neuropharmacology department at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, where he also received his doctorate in 1976. In 1976 Peter Theiss took over the market pharmacy in Homburg from his father. At the same time he devoted himself to the study of alternative healing methods and herbal medicine .

In November 2009 Peter Theiss was appointed honorary professor by the Saarland Prime Minister Peter Müller .

Company history

In 1978, Peter Theiss and his wife, the alternative practitioner Barbara Theiss, founded the Dr. Peter Theiss Naturwaren OHG .

In 1984 production was relocated to the newly built building in Homburg's eastern industrial area.

In 1987 Wella AG took over 75% of the company, which opened up the Wella AG distribution channel through pharmacies.

The Lacalut brand has Dr. Theiss was bought from the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim in 2000 .

In 2001 the company was incorporated into the GmbH "Dr. Theiss Naturwaren GmbH ”, which has since been completely family-owned again.

In 2002 Theiss took over the company Medipharma Cosmetics .

In 2005 Allga Pharma GmbH was taken over with the brand Allgäuer Latschenkiefer . Allga Pharma owns more than 100 hectares of its own mountain pine plantations. The essential oil of the mountain pine is used to make skin-caring and blood-circulation-promoting products, which in Germany are only sold in pharmacies. Overall, Theiss products are available in 90% of all European pharmacies.

In December 2007, the production facility was expanded to include a shipping and logistics center with 13,000 square meters in the industrial area in the Rohrwiesen in Homburg.

Since the merger of the five companies (Dr. Theiss Naturwaren, Medipharma Homburg GmbH, Phyt Immun, Arcam GmbH and Allga Pharma) to form Dr. Theiss group of companies based in Homburg, the products are marketed worldwide. Since 2005, the group of companies has been among the first three pharmacy-exclusive providers in Germany in the field of personal care cosmetics (personal care market).

Product lines

Based on old recipes, the Dr. Theiss marigold ointment brought onto the market. This has since been further developed, and the product range has been expanded with semi-solid preparations such as creams and gels.

The group's product lines include facial care, hair care, body care and lip care. The group also includes the brands Medipharma Cosmetics (care products with olive oil) and Allgäuer Latschenkiefer (care products with mountain pine oil) . The latter includes products for the foot and leg care series and for muscle and joint problems. The Lacalut brand covers the dental care sector .

The Lacalut toothpaste family contributes 45 percent to sales (as of 2009). Lacalut is sold in pharmacies and supermarkets. The other Dr. Theiss products are only sold through pharmacies.

Theiss company is the world's largest supplier of marigold preparations.

Others

Since the 2010/2011 season, the company has been the main sponsor of the football club 1. FC Kaiserslautern for three seasons . The company also supports FC 08 Homburg .
