career

player

The young defender played football for Motor Brehna in Saxony-Anhalt until 1950. He then moved to the Federal Republic of Germany to Eberbach / Neckar and began in 1951 in the 2nd League South at TSG Ulm in 1846 with the start of a new future in life and football.

With the Ulm "Spatzen" he won the championship in the second season and rose to the 1952/53 round in the Oberliga Süd . But he and his teammates Georg Lechner and Hans Eberle could not prevent the immediate relegation. The player Elzner was able to stay in the league, he signed a contract with Hannover 96 for the round 1953/54. In the championship year of the 96 he could not make it into the regular formation. He only made three appearances in the 1953/54 season in the Oberliga Nord and in the final round of the German soccer championship he was not used at all. He played through 1955 and 1956 with varying success in Hanover. After winning the runner-up in the Oberliga Nord in the round 1955/56, he made four appearances in the final round of the German championship in 1956. The robust left defender sat in these games with "Ossi" Traub from Karlsruher SC , Bernhard Klodt from Schalke 04 and the Walter brothers from 1. FC Kaiserslautern apart. In the rounds of 1957/58 and 1958/59, the current regular player was often in the middle as head of the Hanover defense. He gained international experience on the stopper position in the two games in the Messe Cup in November 1958 / January 1959 against AS Roma.

From 1959 to 1961, his playing career ended with 38 league games and four goals at Wuppertaler SV in the 2nd West League at the side of teammates such as Günter Augustat , Erich Haase , Erich Ribbeck and Werner Tönges under coach Willibald Kress . With foresight, he completed his training as a football teacher during his time in Wuppertal at the German Sport University in Cologne under course leader Hennes Weisweiler . In 1960 he and his colleagues Georg Keßler , Klaus Quinkert and Erich Ribbeck received the trainer's license.

Trainer

Heinz Elzner made his debut as a coach in the 1961/62 season at Eintracht Bad Kreuznach in the Oberliga Südwest . For the 1963/64 round he moved to VfB Helmbrechts, which he coached in the Bavarian Amateur League until 1966. Elzner came to the Regionalliga Süd as a coach in the 1966/67 round through the commitment of FC Bayern Hof . He succeeded Jakob "Jackl" Müller. Together with the game committee chairman Armin Möbius, he led the Hofers straight away to the runner-up championship. In 1968 he even celebrated the championship in the south with his goal scorer Wolfgang Breuer . In the games for promotion to the Bundesliga, Heinz Elzner's team could not prevail. Surprisingly, Elzner switched to VfR Mannheim for two years . With the lawn athletes it was not enough to top places in the Regionalliga Süd in the rounds of 1968/69 and 1969/70. The stations SSV Jahn Regensburg (1970 to February 1972) and SpVgg Fürth (March 1972 to 1974) followed. At Ronhof, he ended the Regional League chapter with the 1973/74 season. At the start of the newly installed 2nd Bundesliga, for the 1974/75 round there were groups north and south, Elzner took over the coaching position at the Grünen Au in Hof. He kept Hof on course for three years, then he became a coach at SpVgg Bayreuth for the 1977/78 round . In the second season, 1978/79, he won the runner- up behind TSV 1860 Munich . Elzner played two playoffs with Bayreuth against Bayer 05 Uerdingen, second in the north . After a 1-1 draw at home, the Upper Franconians lost the second leg in Krefeld with 1: 2 goals and thus promotion to the Bundesliga. In his third year in Bayreuth he was unable to place the team in the top group and in the summer of 1980 he moved to the newly promoted FC Augsburg . He was with FCA until March 31, 1981.

Bundesliga coach

For the 1981/82 round, 1. FC Nürnberg , who barely escaped relegation from the Bundesliga in 1980/81, signed Heinz Elzner as the new coach. After five games, President Michael A. Roth's club was bottom of the table with 0:10 points. Coach Elzner was dismissed on September 8, 1981 and replaced by his successor Udo Klug . After his release, 53-year-old Elzner was quoted as saying: “I knew from the start that things could go wrong. 0:10 points are a fact, I have no other reproaches to make. "

After football

After his time as a football coach, Heinz Elzner worked in the PR department of the sporting goods manufacturer PUMA.
